SEOUL, KOREA – Pantech announced on January 8 that it will release a dual speaker-embedded LTE smartphone “Discover” through a U.S. mobile telecom service provider AT&T.
With two speakers embedded in the upper-right and left side, the Discover boasts superior sound quality. The Discover sports a stereo sound effect through a 3D sound solution, enabling users to experience vivid sound when enjoying music or video clips.
Also embedded in the Discover is a variety of functions that Pantech showed off at home. Among them included “motion recognition,” a feature to receive a call or change the screen simply with a hand motion, “smart voice,” a voice recognition feature, and “mini window,” a feature to allow users to enjoy music or video clips through a mini screen.
The Discover is also primed with a variety of industry-leading features, including a 12.6-megapixel camera, an Android operating system Ice Cream Sandwich, and a Qualcomm Winchip processor. The Discover is also compatible with LTE.
Pantech grabbed a No. 5 spot in the North American LTE market in the third quarter of last year.

팬택, 듀얼스피커 장착 LTE폰 '디스커버' 美 출시
팬택은 미국 통신사업자 AT&T를 통해 듀얼스피커를 장착한 LTE 스마트폰 '디스커버'를 출시한다고 8일 밝혔다.
상단부 좌우에 두 개의 스피커를 배치한 이 제품은 우수한 음질로 멀티미디어 콘텐츠를 즐기고 싶어하는 소비자들의 니즈를 적극 반영했다.
3D 사운드 솔루션을 통한 입체 음향 효과로 음악이나 동영상 감상 시 콘서트 현장 혹은 영화관에 있는 것처럼 생생한 소리를 체험할 수 있다.
국내에서 선보였던 다양한 기능도 디스커버에 탑재했다. 손동작으로 전화를 받거나 화면을 전환할 수 있는 '모션인식'을 비롯해 음성인식기능인 '스마트 보이스', 음악이나 동영상을 작은 창으로 띄워 실행시켜주는 '미니윈도우' 등을 제공한다.
이밖에도 1260만 화소 카메라, 안드로이드 운영체제 아이스크림 샌드위치, 퀄컴 원칩 프로세서 MSM8960을 탑재하고 LTE를 지원한다.
팬택은 지난해 3분기 북미 LTE 시장에서 점유율 기준으로 5위를 기록했다. 올해에도 다양한 제품을 선보여 북미 LTE 시장 내 위상과 입지를 강화한다는 계획이다.
