The Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) analyzed 22 kinds of science and technology literature published in North Korea during the 20-year period from 1985 until 2005. In the research, KISTI has found that machine production engineering had the most literature with 5,748 papers, followed by pharmacology and nonmetallic mineral mining with 3,384 and 1,659 cases, respectively.
In the sub-classification by technology, electrical engineering had the most cases of literature.
The total number of literature presented during this period stood at 38,737 cases while the annual presentations amounted to 1844.6 cases on average. In the meantime, the total number of researchers who had written literature in North Korea stood at 21,512 with the average number of presentations standing at 1.8 cases.
Choi Heon-gyoo, the head of the trend information analysis team at KISTI said, "North Korea has been intensively investing in science and technology on the national level. The more the field has literature presentations, the greater the possibility of having cooperation with the South."
