Las Vegas, USA – Sony showed off its brand-new smartphone Xperia Z at the CES 2013 that opened on January 8 in Las Vegas, the US.
With a 5 inch screen, Xperia Z is waterproof. It can endure a water depth of 1 meter for thirty minutes.
Xperia Z features a Qualcomm SnapDragon S4 Pro Quad Core Mobile Processor and Sony's 13 million pixel Exmor RS camera sensor.
Xperia Z is also primed with HDR camera function and HDR video function. Even in case of abrupt changes in lighting environment, Xperia Z enables users to take clear and bright photo.
A Sony official said, "Xperia Z is needed particularly when you want to enjoy HD videos at a bathtub. Xperia Z would make it no longer necessary to go for repair when a mobile phone is fallen into a toilet.

소니, 방수폰 '엑스페리아Z' 첫선…"욕조에서 영상이"
소니는 8일(현지시간) 미국 라스베이거스에서 열린 세계 최대 ‘소비자가전 전시회(CES 2013)’에서 신제품 ‘엑스페리아(Xperia)Z’를 공개했다.
5인치 화면에 풀HD를 탑재한 엑스페리아Z의 특징은 방수가 된다는 것. 엑스페리아Z는 1m(3.3피트)의 깊이에서 30분간 물에서 견딜 수 있다.
소니 모바일의 스티브 워커 글로벌 마케팅 책임(CMO)는 “욕조에서 HD영상을 보고 싶을 때 필요한 핸드폰” 이라며 “더 이상 핸드폰을 변기에 빠뜨려 수리 받는 일은 없을 것”이라고 말했다.
엑스페리아Z는 퀄컴의 스냅드래곤 S4 Pro 쿼드 코어 모바일 프로세서를 바탕으로 소니의 1300만 화소 Exmor RS 카메라 센서를 장착했다. HDR 카메라 기능과 HDR비디오 기능을 추가했다. 역광이나 갑작스러운 조명 변화에도 선명하고 밝은 영상을 촬영할 수 있는 게 장점.
시장조사기관 CCS 인사이트의 벤 우드 연구책임자는 “제품 자체만 본다면 엑스페리아Z만큼 매력적인 휴대폰은 오랫동안 보지 못했다”라고 말했다. 이어 “엑스페리아Z가 어떤 제품과 경쟁하게 될지 관건” 이라며 “제품의 성공 여부는 삼성과 다른 회사들의 제품이 공개되기 전까지는 알 수 없다”라고 덧붙였다.
