Samsung SDI has entered into the construction of a PDP plant that is of the biggest size in Korea for a single PDP production line. On May 15, just one day prior to the company's the 36th anniversary, Samsung SDI held the groundbreaking ceremony for its 4th PDP line in Ulsan with more than 500 people participating. In an aim to begin the mass production of PDPs in May 2007, the company said some 730 billion won will be invested for its construction at over 99,000 square meters of land. The company said that when the construction is completed the new production line will produce a maximum of 3 million PDP's per year and thereby increase the total PDP production to around 7.32 million panels a year. The company said the new facility will be a premium PDP line that can manufacture HD products of both 42 and 50 inches. Through the construction of the fourth line, the Busan business site will be transformed into a highest technology display estate producing PDP's, among others. In his commemorative address at the groundbreaking ceremony, Kim Soontaek, president of Samsung SDI, said, "Let us create a PDP myth once again through the successful construction of the fourth line."
