SEOUL, KOREA - Korea Electric Power (KEPCO), Korea's state-run electric utility, said on January 14 that it has landed a deal to build and run a 90-megawatt wind power generator in Fujeij. The US$187-million project commissioned by the state-owned National Electric Power Company calls for building wind farms in Fujeij, 150-kilometers south of the Jordanian capital of Amman.

KEPCO, in partership with POSCO Engineering & Construction, will break ground in the first half of 2015. The whole construction cost will be procured through project financing by international commercial banks.

 

Currently renewable energy accounts for less than 1 percent of the energy mix in Jordan. Still, the country's second planned wind turbine project, a 40-megawatt wind farm in Kamsheh, has faced a two-year delay due to a disagreement with the selected firm over electricity tariff pricing.
