The 1st Korea-U.S. FTA official negotiations kicked off in Washington DC on June 5~9, 2006. The two countries are scheduled to strive to bargain with each other about bilateral standpoint differences, considering that these will be the first official negotiations between the two delegations. Concerning the contents, the two countries' different standpoints are distinct, but both countries are planning to pave the way for the foundation of negotiations in the coming years by mapping out a consolidated text. The 2nd Korea-U.S. FTA official negotiations will be held on July 10~14 in Seoul
