SEOUL, KOREA - In a bidding to sell off Korea Lines, a shipping company that has been under court receivership, only two private equity fund bidders, Han & Co. and Zenith Partners, and two ship finance companies, with an absence of SK Group and CJ Group.
According to investment banking sources on January 21, only two private equity fund bidders have made the 5 pm deadline for the main bidding. The three bidders that have participated in the preliminary bidding, SK Group, CJ Group, and Dong-A Tanker, were not present.
Earlier, the two large groups had shown interest in acquiring Korea Lines. But they shied away from the final bidding due to the ongoing recession in the shipping market. An investment banking official said, "As the shipping market shows little sign of recovery, it is likely SK and CJ would not show up for the bidding of STX Pan Ocean."

기업회생절차(법정관리)가 진행중인 대한해운 매각 입찰에 SK그룹과 CJ그룹이 불참했다. 한앤컴퍼니와 제니스파트너스 등 사모펀드(PEF)와 선박금융회사 2곳만 참여한 것으로 전해졌다.
21일 대한해운과 투자은행(IB) 업계에 따르면 이날 오후 5시 대한해운 매각 본입찰을 마감한 결과, 한앤컴퍼니, 제니스파트너스 2곳만 참여했다. 예비입찰에 참여했던 SK와 CJ, 동아탱커 등은 참여하지 않았다. IB업계 관계자는 “SK와 CJ 등이 초반에는 관심을 보였지만 해운업 불황 장기화와 법정관리 기업에 대한 인수 가격 실사의 어려움으로 최종 인수전에 참여하지 않았다"며 "해운업 경기가 좋아질 기미가 보이지 않아 SK와 CJ가 앞으로 STX팬오션 인수전에도 참여하지 않을 가능성이 높다"고 전했다.
앞서 대한해운은 인수에 SK,CJ 등 대기업이 참여 의사를 밝히면서 초대형급 매물로 주목받은 바 있다. 법원과 대한해운 희망 매각가는 1500억원 수준이다. 앞서 지난해 12월 인수의향서를 제출한 곳은 CJ GLS, SK해운, 동아탱커, 제니스파트너스코리아, 한앤컴퍼니 등 총 5개 기업이었다.
