SEOUL, KOREA - SkyLake Incuvest, the private equity investor led by the former Minister of Information and Communication Ministry Chin Daeje, will acquire Woongjin PassOne, a Woongjin Group company specializing in test preparation materials and classes, jointly with KG Group.
According to investment banking sources on January 30, SkyLake and KG Group are in negotiating about the detailed terms of the acquisition. Once the deal goes through as planned, KG Group will take the responsibility of management while SkyLake plays the role of a financial investor.
Beginning with the takeover of a fertilizer company KG Chemical in 2003, KG Group has purchased on avearge one company in a year. Currently the group owns KG Inicis (payment solution provider), KG Mobilians (mobile payment solution developer), and KG Yellowcap (package delivery company).

[마켓인사이트] KG그룹, 사모펀드 스카이레이크와 웅진패스원 공동 인수
진대제 전 정보통신부 장관이 이끄는 스카이레이크인큐베스트가 KG그룹과 함께 웅진그룹 계열 교육업체인 웅진패스원을 공동 인수한다.
30일 투자은행(IB) 업계에 따르면 스카이레이크와 KG그룹은 웅진패스원을 함께 인수키로 합의하고 인수 지분 비율 등 세부 사항을 논의하고 있다.
KG그룹이 전략적투자자(SI)로 참여해 인수 후 경영을 맡고 스카이레이크는 재무적투자자(FI)로 인수자금을 대기로 했다. 양측은 조만간 웅진패스원 인수를 마무리지을 계획이다.
스카이레이크는 지난해 11월 웅진패스원 인수 우선협상대상자로 선정된 뒤 공동 인수 업체를 찾아왔다.
KG그룹은 웅진패스원 인수로 교육사업으로 사업 영역을 넓히게 된다. 2003년 비료회사 KG케미칼(옛 경기화학)을 시작으로 1년에 한 개꼴로 기업을 인수했다. KG케미칼을 비롯해 KG이니시스 KG모빌리언스 등 상장사와 옐로우캡 등 비상장사들을 거느리고 있다.
