SEOUL, KOREA - Samsung Electronics acquired a 5-percent stake in Japan’s tablet specialist Wacom and decided to strengthen mutual cooperation. Wacom is specialized in the manufacturing of tablet and touch pens. The S-Pen, developed for Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Note, is made by Wacom.
Samsung Electronics announced on January 31 that it entered into a capital tie-up with Wacom. Samsung Electronics acquired a 5-percent stake in Wacom. In return for this, Wacom plans to invest 5.3 billion yen to develop and supply products exclusively for Samsung Electronics.
In the categories of smartphones and tablet computers, the two parties will establish a wide-ranging cooperative relation, aimed at shortening new product development time and expanding supply range.
In particular, as Samsung Electronics is expanding the application of the S-Pen for its premium models, they are expected to form a strategic alliance in this areas.
