SEOUL, KOREA – Cloud services offered by LG U+ (a Korean telecommunications and mobile phone operator controlled by the LG Group) have become available on mobile communication venture firm Kakao’s mobile platform. The entry of venture firms’ mobile services into larger companies’ mobile platforms has been common, but the reverse was almost unheared of. As such, this exceptional partnership underlined how powerful KakaoTalk is in the mobile ecosystem.
LG U+ said on January 31 that its U+ Box (the name of its cloud service for individuals) would be introduced to KakaoTalk’s Chatting Plus. The U+ Box is designed to enable seamless connection between a smorgasbord of devices: it gives users instant access to photos, videos and music stored in cloud storage via smartphone, PCs and TV.
Once users opt for the U+ Box service in KakaoTalk’s Chatting Plus, they can share as many as 300 photos and 300MB video files at a time. In addition, a photo book making service is also on offer. A LG U+ official said, “The rendezvous of U+ Box and KakaoTalk Chatting Plus will help users enjoy cloud services with much ease while chatting.”
