SEOUL, KOREA – On February 4th, the Gyeonggi Information Industry Association (GIIA) held a winter seminar under the topic of “Smart IT Convergence Technology and Industry Security”.

At the seminar, Lee Won-young, the president of Gyeonggi Institute of Science & Technology Promotion (GSTEP), presented this year’s R&D support plans under the theme of “Gyeonggi Science Technology R&D in 2013” during the keynote speech.
In the welcoming speech, Choi Jun-yeong, executive director of GIIA and president of Korea Polytechnic University, said that, “For the incoming government, the Ministry of Future, Creation and Science will be set up in a bid to secure new growth engines with the convergence of science technologies and ICT. This new ministry will lead the creative economy covering CPDN (Content, Platform, Network, and Device). In the smart IT convergence environment, it is vital to nurture many talents to encourage them start their own businesses.”
Yang Jae-soo, a chairman of GIIA, said that, “GIIA, which started as U- Gyeonggi Forum back in 2009, was newly launched last November. For the past few years, GIIA has strived to spread the awareness of ubiquitous in the areas of politics, economy, society, and culture. Under the slogan of “Creating Beautiful Smart Word”, we provided smart education for over 5,000 people, as well as holding UCC contests. On top of this, GIIA has been pursuing joint business projects along with industry, university and research institutes to attain policy suggestions. With “Information Industry Academy”, set up as an affiliated organization, we will increase our efforts to nurture ICT convergence professionals.”
