SEOUL, KOREA – Things are looking up for investment in solar power generation. Decreases in product prices and an array of solar power promotion policies drawn up by the government and municipalities help consumers warm to solar power generation.
Consumers who wish to install a solar power generator need to look carefully at government support programs to save money. The Korean government is running “One Million Green Home Project” to support households’ adoption of solar power generators. This year, the cost a consumer wishing to install a solar power generator has to bear will further go down. First of all, information on diverse products and the cost of installation will be offered to help consumers comparison-shop.
Municipalities also hand out additional subsidies to green-minded consumers..
As part of Korea’s push for a Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) (a regulation that requires the increased production of energy from renewable energy sources), the Seoul City government will bear up to 50% of the facility installation expenses (the maximum is KRW 150 million) for building owners and power generation companies that try to put up photovoltaic facilities below 150kW.
