SEOUL, KOREA - LG Electronics won a patent suit against Multimedia Patent Trust (MPT) of the United States. According to LG Electronics on February 7, the California Southern District Court ruled that LG Electronics had not infringed on the patent of MPT. The court accepted the jury's verdict made in December 2012.In 2010, MPT, a subsidiary of France's telecom equipment firm Alcatel Lucent, filed a suit, claiming that LG Electronics infringed upon its two patents with regards to video compression technology.
A total of nine LG devices were sued for having allegedly infringed upon the video compression patents, including the Chocolate Touch VX8575, Bliss UX700, Touch AX8575, Lotus Elite LX610, Mystique UN610, and Samba LG8575.
MPT has asserted that LG Electronics should make a compensation of $9.1 million for its alleged infringement of the patents. The court, however, raised the hands of LG Electronics in the end.
