SEOUL, KOREA – NHN is set to devote its energies to its smartphone-based business. NHN looks to double the number of its mobile messenger “Line” subscribers to over 200 million. Besides, Hangame that is about to be spun off from NHN will be transformed into a smartphone game developer.

As NHN has started to reap the fruits of its Line and Hangame smartphone games since last year, NHN has seen huge potential of its mobile business. Having a profound faith in its mobile business, NHN has newly created mobile divisions like Campmobile and Line Plus as part of its all-out efforts to overhaul its mobile business.

On Thursday, In-Joon Hwang, NHN CFO, mentioned in a conference call, “With an upsurge in sales of emoticon "stamps” on Line and mobile games, especially in Japan, sales of Line skyrocketed by a whopping 200% year-on-year to KRW 48.3 billion in the fourth quarter of last year. We will more than double the number of Line users by mounting an aggressive marketing campaign this year.”
