SEOUL, KOREA – Smart device manufacturers as well as the information communications construction industry are vying to win smart classroom contracts worth KRW 2 trillion.
Education Offices in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, Chungnam, Chungbuk, Daegu and Busan have mounted their smart classroom projects since the beginning of this year.
Smart classroom projects are designed to have classrooms decked with smart devices like smart TVs, electronic boards and smart pads and wireless local area networks (WLAN).
Education Offices nationwide are speeding up their smart classroom projects to equip classroom with smart devices during summer and winter school breaks.
By 2015, up to KRW 2 trillion will be poured into the smart school smart classroom project, aimed to upgrade classrooms at elementary, middle and high schools.
According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Korea, over 100 schools nationwide will go smart under this project this year. Special grants that held at about KRW 12.8 billion in 2012 will be expanded this year.
Korean small- and medium-sized network companies as well as large companies like Samsung and LG are jumping on the smart classroom bandwagon to adorn classrooms with their products.
