Seoul, Korea - Korea Semiconductor Association announced on the 11th that the share of Korea in global system semiconductor export market rose sharply by 1.1%p to 5.4%, and was placed in the fourth place, following the U.S., Japan and EU.
Taiwan lost 0.7%p from the last year’s share and had to give its place in the global ranking to Korea.
Korea was able to up its system semiconductor market share in a short time owing to the expansion of smartphone and smartpad markets. The expansion brought along a stiff increase in demand for application processors, CMOS image sensors (CIS) and display driver ICs (LDI). Especially, the export of application processors passed KRW 7.7 billion mark last year.
The industry expects that the system semiconductors will take more than a half of this year’s total Korean semiconductor export. The increase of system semiconductor export is anticipated to make a major contribution to the improvement of trade balance.
Korean system semiconductor venture companies are also turning up remarkable numbers. The system semiconductor exports by Korean venture companies last year increased by 24.1%, year-on-year, to USD 450 million.
한국, 세계 시스템 반도체 시장에서 대만 제치고 4위로 올라서
우리나라가 시스템 반도체 시장에서 대만을 제치고 4위로 올라섰다.
11일 한국반도체산업협회에 따르면 지난해 우리나라 세계 시스템반도체 시장점유율은 5.4%로 미국·일본·EU에 이어 4위를 기록했다. 전년보다 무려 1.1%포인트 시장점유율이 늘었다.
반면 대만은 전년보다 0.7%포인트 하락한 5% 시장점유율에 그쳐 세계 5위로 한 단계 내려갔다.
우리나라가 단기간에 시스템 반도체 시장점유율을 늘릴 수 있었던 것은 스마트폰·스마트패드 시장 확산 덕분이다. 스마트 기기 시장 확대로 지난해 애플리케이션프로세서(AP)·CMOS 이미지센서(CIS)·디스플레이드라이버 IC(LDI) 수요가 급증했다. 특히 지난해 AP 수출액은 77억5000만달러를 넘어섰다.
올해 반도체 수출 중 시스템 반도체 비중이 처음으로 절반을 넘어설 전망이다. 지난해 시스템 반도체 수출비중은 48.7%였지만 올해 51%로 늘어날 것으로 예상된다.
무역수지 개선에도 큰 역할을 할 것으로 보인다. 2003년 시스템반도체 무역수지는 97억달러 적자였지만, 지난해 42억달러 흑자를 기록했다.
시스템 반도체 수출 시장이 다변화되고 있어 향후 전망은 더욱 밝다. 지난해 중국·홍콩 수출 비중이 2배로 증가했고, 베트남·브라질 등 신흥시장 거래도 이뤄졌다.
시스템반도체 벤처기업의 약진도 두드러지고 있다. 지난해 국내 벤처기업의 시스템반도체 수출액은 전년보다 24.1% 증가한 4억5000만달러를 기록했다.
