SEOUL, KOREA – A mobile firefighting command and control system will be built whereby the location and traffic line of firemen can be monitored from outside on display devices. In addition, ICT such as GPS systems and Wi-Fi will be introduced to the very scene of fires.
National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) will set about the development of a mobile-based national disaster management system in which a total of 9 billion (20 billion of which will be invested this year) will be invested for the next five years. As early as next month, the NEMA will issue a public notice to pick contractors.
By leveraging IT such as smartphones and displays, the NEMA aims to reduce Korea’s firemen mortality rates, which are relatively higher than those in other nations - 2.6 times higher than Japan’s and 1.8 times higher than that of the US.
Furthermore, the NEMA plans to draw up 3D maps of over 800,000 major facilities nationwide based on their floor plans to effectively support firefighting efforts.
