SEOUL, KOREA – The compatibility of various kinds of video conference systems, produced under different brands, is likely to improve. Even if a company is equipped with a video conference system, it was unable to use it due to different standards.

On Tuesday, Korea Communications Commission (KCC) and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) announced that they developed a Korean standard for video conference systems. In thrashing out the standard, they took into account not only domestic companies’ demands but also those from foreign markers, thereby further enhancing compatibility.

This standard was created at the end of last year and is scheduled to be set as Korea’s collective standard for video conference systems in August.

Boosted compatibility among different video conference systems is expected to improve the smart work environment to a great degree. In particular, the efficiency of inter-ministerial communication, which is anticipated to diminish due to the relocation of government ministries to Sejong City is likely to appreciably pick up.

Videoconferencing products produced by different makers have thus far failed to work in sync with one another. Existing video conference products built on different standards will also become compatible with one another by using some software.
