SEOUL, KOREA – The rate of Korean public institutions’ illegal copying of software stood at 0.24% in voluntary reviews while it was 1.55% in on-spot inspections, down over 50% from last year’s results.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s survey of 3,351 public institutions on software usage (conducted from May to October of last year) found that the 3,351 public institutions were using 4,474,453 software programs, of which 99.76% (4,463,932) were authentic and 0.24% (10,521) were pirated software.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also carried out on-spot inspections of 131 public institutions. The result showed that the use of bootleg software fell 4.07% year-on-year to 1.55%, a figure implying that public institutions’ software usage environment has been markedly revamped.
Since 2008, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has conducted a software usage inspection of nearly 3,000 public institutions annually to root out software piracy and encourage the efficient management of software in the public sector.
