SEOUL, KOREA – A Korean SME has made a foray into the global smart grid AMI (advanced metering infrastructure) market. On Tuesday, Korean firm Tide said it developed a communications platform for AMI and broke into the AMI market in Central and South America.Accordingly, Tide has become Korea’s second company that broke into the global AMI market after Nuri Telecom. Building on its experiences with last years’ pilot project, Tide is expected to win more contracts.
Tide’s AMI communications platform is capable of adopting and running various kinds of high-speed, low-speed fixed-line or wireless communications systems such as PLC (Power Line Communications), Zigbee and WiBro. It will work in a sustainable manner in both densely populated areas with high levels of communications interference and sparsely populated wide areas.
Besides, it furnishes multi platforms, thereby enabling real-time data collection and inspections and preemptive responses such as prior tests, building, operation and maintenance.
In addition, it supports efficient power grid management by controlling surreptitious use of electricity, applying real-time payment plans and dealing with electric leakage and loss in real time.
