SEOUL, KOREA – As the third round of personnel appointments has been completed, the so-called “Geunhye-nomics” is being fleshed out.
As President-elect Park’ personnel choices for the economic ministerial positions clearly indicate, economic and industrial policies, from macroeconomics to the real economy, are likely to be diagnosed and thrashed out thoroughly by technocrats packed with professionalism and though-out planning.
Hyun Oh-seok, President of Korea Development Institute (KDI) (a state think tank), was nominated to head the Ministry of Finance and Strategy and also takes on the newly created postion of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. In view of the KDI’s calls for aggressive financial and monetary approaches and interest rate cuts, Korea’s macroeconomic policies are expected to kick into high gear.
As for the Ministry of Future, Creation and Science, Kim Jeong-hoon, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs and Corporate Strategy, has been tapped for the top spot. Kim Jeong-hoon seems to epitomize President-elect Park’s calls for a creative economy in that he is a Korean-American tech entrepreneur who has ample hands-on experiences with the ICT sector.
