SEOUL, KOREA – On Tuesday, LG U + announced that it would commercialize “Smart Wi-Fi” that simultaneously controls LTE and Wi-Fi networks.
LG U +’s “Smart Wi-Fi” checks the condition of Wi-Fi access points (AP) surrounding the user. If APs are not connected to the Internet or signals are weak, the user’s smartphone will be automatically connected to LTE networks. Besides, hooking up to Wi-Fi, the smartphone still remains connected to LTE, thereby ensuring continuity of data services.
Under preexisting Wi-Fi services, phones automatically connect to Wi-Fi regardless of the intensity of AP signals and connections to the Internet, so data services are often interrupted. Attempts to switch from Wi-Fi to LTE also caused the same problem.
As of now, the Pantech Vega No 6 and LG Electronics’ Optimus G Pro come with this Smart Wi-Fi function. An official from LG U+ said, “Newly released LTE smartphones will be equipped with this function to help consumers use data services in a more convenient, affordable manner.”
