SEOUL, KOREA - LG Innotek is rolling up its sleeves to enter the overseas LED light market. Such an endeavor by the company is expected to help the sluggish domestic LED industry to bounce back.
LG Innotek (represented by Lee Woong-beom) said on Feb. 19 that it had signed a strategic partnership contract with Future Lighting Solutions, a Canada-based light distributor, to strengthen its global LED light business. Based on the contract, the Canadian distributor is going to provide chips, modules and other LED parts manufactured by LG Innotek for global companies that produce finished light goods.
The local light maker has so far directly provided LED parts to firms that manufacture complete light products. It is the first time for the local light company to cultivate new markets through a specialized distributor. The light distributor in Canada has about 160 sales offices in 70 countries around the world.
“This contract would rapidly expand our accessibility to the global market. And we will work hard to provide products suitable for various lights,” said Kang Seok-hwan, the managing director of LG Innotek.

LG이노텍이 해외 발광다이오드(LED) 조명 시장 공략에 팔을 걷고 나섰다. 실적 부진에 시달리는 LED 사업을 반등시키는 계기가 될 것으로 보인다.
LG이노텍(대표 이웅범)은 최근 캐나다 조명 유통업체 퓨처라이팅솔루션과 전략적 협력 계약을 맺고 글로벌 LED 조명 사업 강화에 나선다고 19일 밝혔다. 제휴에 따라 퓨쳐라이팅솔루션은 LG이노텍이 생산한 칩, 모듈 등 LED 부품을 세계 조명 완제품 업체에 보급할 계획이다.
LG이노텍은 그동안 LED 부품을 조명 완제품 업체에 직접 공급해왔다. 전문 유통업체와 계약을 맺고 판로 개척에 나서는 것은 이번이 처음이다. 퓨처라이팅솔루션은 세계 70여 국가에 약 160개의 영업망을 갖고 있다. LG이노텍은 자사의 기술과 퓨처라이팅솔루션의 영업력이 시너지 효과를 발휘할 것으로 기대했다. LG이노텍이 LED 부품을 공급하면 LG전자가 조명 완제품을 만들어 판매하는 그룹 내 협력 관계는 그대로 이어간다.
강석환 LG이노텍 상무는 “이번 계약으로 세계 시장에서 LG이노텍 제품에 대한 시장 접근성이 빠르게 확대될 것”이라며 “보다 다양한 조명에 적합한 제품을 제공하겠다”고 말했다.
한편 업계에 따르면 세계 LED 조명 시장은 올해 21조원, 오는 2015년이면 41조원 규모로 급성장할 전망이다.
