SEOUL, KOREA - ‘KSTAR Conference 2013’, a hub of nuclear fusion study, is going to be held.
Organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and National Fusion Research Institute, ‘KSTAR Conference 2013’for the development of nuclear fusion research home and abroad and the announcement of research performance and results made through KSTAR plasma experiment is to be held for two days from Feb. 26 to 27 in Buyeo, Chungnam.
At the conference, advanced nuclear fusion research institutes including JET2 from Europe and PPPL3 from the US and local institutes will discuss how to develop the study on nuclear fusion which is considered as eco-friendly energy source. On the occasion of the fifth anniversary, the conference has four presentation sessions to discuss the status of nuclear fusion research home and abroad and five expert workshops to commercialize local nuclear fusion energy.
In particular, one of the main themes of the presentation sessions is how to control plasma ‘Edge Localized Mode (ELM), a world-class research result of KSTAR 2012, showing the enhanced status of Korea's technology in the longtime operation of the nuclear fusion device.

국내외 핵융합 연구 허브인 `KSTAR 콘퍼런스 2013`이 열린다. 교육과학기술부와 국가핵융합연구소는 국내외 핵융합 연구 발전방향 논의와 KSTAR 플라즈마 실험을 통해 창출된 연구 성과 발표를 위한 `KSTAR 콘퍼런스 2013`을 26, 27일 충남 부여에서 개최한다.
행사는 유럽(JET2), 미국(PPPL3) 등 선진 핵융합연구기관 및 국내 공동협력연구를 통해 친환경 에너지원으로 주목받는 핵융합 연구의 발전 방향을 논의한다. 올해로 다섯 번째를 맞는 `KSTAR 콘퍼런스 2013`는 국내외 핵융합에너지 연구 현황의 토론을 위한 4개의 발표 세션과 국내 핵융합에너지 상용화를 위한 5개의 전문가 워크숍을 개최한다.
특히 발표 세션의 메인 주제로 KSTAR의 2012년도 국제적 수준의 연구 성과인 플라즈마 경계면 불안정 현상 제어(ELM)4) 등을 다뤄, 핵융합 장치의 장시간 운전기술 분야에서 우리나라의 위상을 알린다는 점에서 큰 의미가 있다. 이 밖에도 KSTAR 실무운영위원회 및 KSTAR 활용고도화 협의회, 인력양성 기획워크숍 등 다양한 미팅을 통해 국내 핵융합연구의 연구저변 확대를 위한 전문가 회의의 장이 된다.
이근재 교과부 기초연구정책관은 “KSTAR 콘퍼런스를 통해 미래의 청정 에너지원으로 주목받는 핵융합에너지 연구의 국내 위상을 높이도록 노력하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
