SEOUL, KOREA – On Tuesday, Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), the government standards organization under the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE), said it will discover and implement 87 standardization tasks that are linked to national R&D projects.
The new standardization research tasks include 21 projects to develop key technologies for industrial convergence, 55 standard technology enhancement projects and 11 projects to develop energy technologies.
KATS plans to connect national R&D projects to standardization in order to promote product commercialization and oversea market entry. “Since standards are created through consultations among experts from technology commissions, standards serve as a yardstick by which the safety and credibility of new technologies and new products can be assessed. The R&D-standardization connection will help Korean exporters break into overseas markets,” KATS said.
Also, KATS will lend all-out support to standardization-poor Korean SMEs by setting up Global Standardization Center” this year.
The head of KATS mentioned “To help Korea’s key technologies seize the global market, standardization projects should be implemented from the R&D stage. KATS will make efforts to revamp a system designed to galvanize the R&D-standardization connection.

기표원, 국가 R&D 연계 표준화사업 추진
지식경제부 기술표준원은 올해 국가 연구개발(R&D)사업과 연계한 87개 신규 표준화 연구과제를 발굴, 추진한다고 5일 밝혔다.
신규 추진 과제는 △산업융합원천기술개발사업 21개 △표준기술력향상사업 55개 △에너지기술개발사업 11개다. 기표원은 이 가운데 산업융합원천기술개발사업 표준화 과제를 접수 중이다. 나머지 사업은 다음주부터 순차적으로 공고된다.
기표원은 국가 R&D사업과 표준화를 연계해 실용화를 촉진하고 해외 시장 진출을 지원할 계획이다. 기표원 측은 “기술위원회 전문가 협의를 거쳐 표준이 만들어지기 때문에 신기술, 신제품에 대한 안전과 신뢰성을 판단하는 기준이 된다”며 “이러한 과정을 통해 세계 시장 진출을 위한 통로 역할을 할 수 있다”고 설명했다.
기표원은 올해 `글로벌 표준화 지원센터`를 설립하는 등 표준화 역량이 부족한 중소중견기업을 적극적으로 지원할 방침이다. 이달 중에는 산업융합원천기술개발사업 설명회와 정보교류회도 개최할 예정이다.
서광현 기표원 원장은 “우리 원천 기술이 세계 시장을 선점하기 위해서는 R&D 단계부터 표준화 연계사업을 지원해 시장에 진입하는 전략을 세워야 한다”며 “표준화 연계 활성화를 위한 제도 개선에 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.
