SEOUL, KOREA – Juha, a small-sized Korean ESS (Energy Storage System ) developer, has been wooed by the Japanese ESS market. On Sunday, Juha announced that it inked contracts to supply ESSs linked to medical equipment to Japan’s Tokado Energy and Stec.
Having successfully met the standard of the BAJ (Battery Association of Japan), Juha has broken into Japan’s home and commercial ESS market and then to the ESSs for medical equipment.
Secondary battery maker Tokado Energy, one of Panasonic’s affiliates, plans to enter the ESS market by developing medical equipment ESSs in partnership with Juha. Tokado Energy and Juha will join forces to develop the key parts of ESSs - such as solutions for medical equipment batteries and power control technology. Stec, a 40-year-old medical equipment maker, has signed a contract to sell Juha’s 1.1㎾h ESSs packed with Tokado Energy’s lithium-ion secondary batteries through its existing distribution channels.
Juha’s ESS consists of a BMS (battery management system), UPS (uninterruptible power supply) system and a charge/discharge inverter. It boasts an automatic shift from charging mode to power supply mode, so it will work as a UPS system in case of a power outage.

주하, 일본업체에 ESS사업 러브콜
국내 중소업체에 일본 에너지저장장치(ESS) 시장의 러브콜이 이어지고 있다.
주하(대표 김혁•안순용)는 일본 의료업체 도카도 에너지, 에스텍 등과 의료장비 연계형 ESS 공급 계약을 체결한다고 10일 밝혔다.
이 회사는 일본 전지공업회 규격을 통과해 최근 가정•일반상업용 시장에 이어 의료장비용 ESS 시장에 진출했다.
2차전지 업체인 도카도 에너지는 파나소닉 계열사로 주하와 공동으로 의료장비용 ESS를 개발, 시장에 진출한다는 계획이다. 도카도 에너지는 의료용 전용 배터리 등의 솔루션과 주하의 전력 제어 기술을 포함한 ESS 핵심장치를 공동 개발할 방침이다. 에스텍은 40년된 의료장비 업체로 도카도 에너지의 배터리를 채택한 주하와 1.1㎾h급 ESS 완제품 판매 계약을 체결하고 에스텍의 기존 의료 유통망으로 판매한다.
주하의 ESS는 파나소닉 계열 도카도의 리튬이온 2차전지를 채택했으며 배터리관리시스템(BMS)과 무정전전원공급장치(UPS), 충•방전 인버터로 구성됐다. 충전과 전력공급을 자동으로 전환해 정전 시에는 UPS로 활용 가능하다.
안순용 사장은 “수술 등 대부분의 의료장비는 큰 모터부하에도 안정적인 전류를 공급해야하기 때문에 우리의 전력제어 기술 강점이 이번 계약 성사에 주효했다”며 “이달 말 주하의 일본 대리점인 유타카를 통해 도카도 에너지•에스텍과 최종 계약을 체결한다”고 말했다.
주하는 일본 산업용PC 업체인 테크팔과 가정•일반상업용 ESS(1㎾급) 제품을 개발해 일본 시장에 판매 중이다.
