SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung Electronics has upgraded its existing app development center “Ocean“ to a developer support center. Ocean was opened in Samsung-dong, Seoul back in August 2010 to assist venture companies and smart device app developers. Ocean has made a significant contribution to the creation of an ecosystem for app developers: 30,000 users, nearly 2,000 trainees and 100 start-up teams have benefited from Ocean over the past two and a half years.
An open seminar program called “OOPS (OCEAN OPen Seminar)” has been newly created to allow on-and off-line communities and small-sized study groups (between 2 to 50 members) to hold seminars at the upgraded Ocean.
The extension of Ocean comes with reinforced technological support. “Ocean has ratcheted up its multidimensional support for platform developers. Ocean will proactively promote convergence technologies and play a bridging role between app developers and Samsung to create synergy between the two,” said a high-ranking official from Samsung Electronics’ Media Solution Center.

삼성전자, 개발자 지원센터 `오션` 확장 개관
삼성전자가 개발자 지원센터를 확장 개관했다.
삼성전자는 기존 앱 개발센터 `오션`을 개발자 지원센터로 바꿨다.
스마트폰과 스마트TV 등 다양한 스마트 기기용 애플리케이션을 개발하는 벤처기업과 개발자들을 지원하기 위해 2010년 8월 서울 삼성동에 문을 연 `오션`은 2년 반 동안 3만명 이용자, 2000여명 교육생, 100여개 스타트업팀을 배출하는 등 개발자 생태계 조성에 큰 기여를 해 왔다.
이번 리뉴얼을 통해 기술 지원이 강화됐다. S펜, 스마트TV 등 관련 기술 멘토들이 온라인에서 풀지 못한 삼성전자 서비스 관련 주요 개발 이슈들을 센터 내에서 직접 지도한다.
오픈 세미나 프로그램인 `OOPS(OCEAN OPen Seminar)`가 신설돼 온•오프라인 커뮤니티나 소규모 스터디 그룹이 2명부터 50명 사이의 크고 작은 세미나를 오션에서 진행할 수 있다.
고정완 삼성전자 미디어솔루션센터 상무는 “오션은 다양한 플랫폼 개발자 지원을 확대해 왔다”며 “기기 간 컨버전스 기술 개발을 적극 지원하고 회사와 개발자 간 시너지를 낼 수 있는 협력의 중심으로 발전시킬 것”이라고 밝혔다.
