SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung Electronics said Wednesday its printers have been registered in the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) system, a comprehensive environmental rating that helps identify greener computers and other electronic equipment.
Having products EPEAT-certified is expected to be set as one of the bidding requirements for the General Services Administration (GSA)’s procurement projects.
The EPEAT evaluation process covers 59 criteria in a total of 10 categories including the use of hazardous materials, recyclability and waste management.
A total of 49 Samsung models have been EPEAT-certified including 14 A3 all-in-one models and 35 A4 printer/all-in-one models.
Meanwhile, in early March, Samsung’s three A4 color laser printer/all-in-one models (CLP-680ND•CLX-6260FD/FW) received the highest five star rating from BLI (Buyers Laboratory) in the eco-friendless evaluation.

삼성 프린터, 국내 업계 최초 美 `친환경` 등록
삼성전자는 자사 프린터가 국내 업체 최초로 미국 전자제품 친환경 인증 EPEAT(Electronics Product Environmental Assessment Tool) 등록을 마쳤다고 27일 밝혔다.
EPEAT 인증은 올해 상반기부터 미국 조달청의 구매 입찰 시 필수 항목 중 하나로 지정될 예정이다. 삼성전자는 향후 미국 정부기관 입찰에서 유리한 고지에 서게 됐다고 해석했다.
EPEAT 인증은 위험 물질의 사용 여부, 소재(재활용 플라스틱의 함량), 재활용을 고려한 설계 여부, 폐기관리(제품 회수)등 총 10개 카테고리의 59개 세부 항목을 평가해 결정한다.
삼성전자는 A3 복합기 14개 모델과 A4 프린터/복합기 35개 모델 포함 총 49개 모델에 EPEAT 인증을 받았다.
한편 삼성전자는 3월 초 미국의 사무기기 평가 기관인 바이어스랩(BLI)의 친환경 평가 테스트에서 A4 컬러 레이저 프린터/복합기 3개 모델이 (CLP-680ND•CLX-6260FD/FW) 별 5개 만점에 5개, 최고 등급을 획득한 바 있다. 은주상 삼성전자 전무는 “이번 미국 EPEAT 인증 취득으로 삼성 프린터가 친환경을 지향하는 것을 인정받았다”며 “향후 미국시장 내 연방 정부 및 공공 기관의 시장 공략에 큰 도움이 될 것”으로 기대했다.
