Software Industry Production Increases by 24.5% Year-by-Year
According to this survey, the total production related to the IT 839 strategy has stood at about US$ 38.4 billion, increasing by 8.7% year on year. The market for the first half of 2006 shows a remarkable increase in the software industry along with the introduction of new services including WiBro and high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA), but the hardware industry shows a retarded performance. The market for the second half is expected to be favorable due to the seasonal demand and the export recovery of mobile phones. In case of the 8 great services, the investment in HSDPA is under smooth progress aiming to cover the 84 cities nationwide. WiBro service is scheduled to be expanded to the whole Seoul area and some other areas in the vicinity of Seoul. As of the end of 2005, the DMB users have increased 3.8 times to 1,850,000 from 490,000 of 2004. The total production of software industry including IT services has rapidly increased by 24.5% compared with the previous year. This sharp increase has been made by virtue of demand expansion caused by the establishment of the next generation system, the government efforts to maintain proper software prices, and the improvement of the system for placing an order. It is noticeable that RFID/USN industry has grown by 38.3% year on year thanks to the full-scale introduction to the national defense and port logistics.
In case of 9 great new growth engines, each field is showing different performance. In the first half, digital TV has increased by 25.7%, RFID-related articles by 61/4%, URC (Ubiquitous Robotic Companion) by 71.4%, and IT SoC by 7.2%, but next generation computing items have grown only by 0.4%, mobile communication items by - 2.8%, and broadband/home network devices by -45.7%. The slowdown or decrease of these items has been caused by intensified global competition and unit price cut.
