Head of Samsung Lee Kun-hee was Awarded Van Fleet from the Korea Society

Chairman of Samsung, Lee Kunhee received the Van Fleet Award in New York for his contributions to promote his country's cooperative relations with the United States. The Korea Society, currently led by Donald Gregg, gave the Van Fleet Award. Mr. Gregg is a former U.S. ambassador to South Korea and has presented the award to people who contributed to the enhancement of South Korea-U.S. relations since 1992.
The annual award is named after James Van Fleet who served in the U.S. Army during the 1950-53 Korean War. He is also a founding member of the organization. Previous awardees include former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and George Bush, former U.S. Defense Secretary William Perry and South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon.
A this year's awardee, Mr.Lee commented his impressions, "I appreciate the Korea Society who gave me this kinds of honorable award that commemorate Van Fleet's spirit, and I'm humbly receive this award as a meaning of encouragement let me more strive for harmonious and cooperative relations with the U.S.
Cooperative Partnership with Serbia Post and Telecommunication Corporation

Last September 29, President of 'Serbia Post and Telecommunication Corporation' Mr. Dragan Kovacevic visited 'Korea Post' to discuss a cooperative partnership between two countries, with Hwang Joongyeon, president of Korea Post. Mr. Kovacevic accompanied Serbia's minister of International Economic relation Department on a visit to Seoul. During that time Mr. Kovacevic came to look around Korea Post in a bid to follow and learn Korea Post's advanced Information Technology. In front of Mr. Kovacevic, President Hwang explained Korea's state of the art Post distribution administration system, PDA services and export promotion policies for Korea post IT industries.
Korea's RFID Security Technology Takes Off Toward an International Standard

Domestic RFID security technology will be used in several fields as an international standard, according to an Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) recent report. During the International Standard Meeting which was held in the U.S. and Canada, 2 researchers from ETRI were appointed to the posts of "RFID software infrasystem structure" and "Security and protect privacy system for application service" respectively. Kim Ho-won, team leader of the information security research division, was appointed as a co-editor for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and PhD Choi Doo-ho was appointed as an editor for Telecommunication Standardization Sector of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T).
The appointments mean Korea RFID security technology and privacy protection systems will take off toward an international standard through those kinds of standard organizations' recognition. ETRI is also continuously struggling to promote and develop more cutting edge RFID application service systems regarding security and privacy protection system. Son Seong-won, the leader of Information Security Development said, "We will exert all our possible efforts to make ETRI's RFID, security, protect privacy technology as international standards."
One More Domestic Korean Researcher Included in Who's Who

Yoo Kwan, PhD was included in the new edition of Marquis Who's Who in the world, Who's Who in Science and Engineering 2006-2007. That means Mr. Yoo was selected by Marquis Who's Who as one of the outstanding and leading Scientists from around the world. He found out a sensory neuropeptide is essential to people's diet and weight control. Mr. Yoo was conferred a doctorate from Ohio state University. He has published 20 papers in eminent journals. This year's Who's who has already included 2 other Korean PhDs . Kim Youngkook, and Roh Moon-cheol.
Which Researcher has Outstanding Paper

Liu Je-ha, Professor of the Mechatronics department, Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, was nominated for the Korea Intelligent robot conference outstanding paper award at the first Korea Intelligent Robot Conference. The team led by Professor Liu presented a paper regarding cutting edge haptics technology. It will be carried in the November issue of the publication Collection of Robot Engineering Papers.
Kwak So-na, KAIST Student, Awarded First Prize in International Robot Design Contest

A student of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) won the first prize at the International Robot Design Contest. Kwak So-na who is studying at the doctor's course in the department of Industrial design at KAIST participated in the Ro-Man 2006 . The 15th IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication . which was held at University of Hertfordshire. She won an honorable first prize by her outstanding and distinguished work, emotional robot 'Haemi.' The prize winner 'Haemi' is a kind of portable emotional robot what can express its emotion and intimacy using its sense of sight, hearing and touch beyond an ordinary robot's simple gesture. And also it possessed a cute design and unusual concepts. Ro-Man 2006 is an honorable and eminent conference which is held to promote robot study worldwide, especially through its Student Robot Design Contest. It has been developing more unique and creative robot design and structure ideas.
This contest's awardee Ms. Kwak said, "I feel complicated regarding designer's role in the robot industry for a long time, but owing to this prize I gained more confidence"

CEO of Samsung Received "Honorable Businessman Award" By Korean Immigrant Society in the U.S.

Oh Dong-jin, CEO of Samsung Electronics North America, received "Honorable Businessman Award" by Korean American Community Foundation(KACF). Last October 4th during its annual reception in New York, KACF gave the prize to Mr. Oh for his contributions to promote development of Korean immigrants society. Mr. Oh commented his impressions "I'm not satisfied with current outcomes, I will humbly pay all my efforts to develop Korean power and also to enhance Samsung's brand name in the world". KACF was established last 2003 and managed by prominent 20 Korean organizers, this foundation has been briskly acting for raise funds which needed to develop Korean immigrants society in the U.S.
