SEOUL, KOREA – LG Electronics said it has become the world’s first and only Intertek-certified comprehensive tester of home appliances in the energy standard sector.
Intertek, a multinational inspection, product testing and certification company headquartered in London, has named LG Electronics the first Intertek-certified testing lab, internationally acknowledging the credibility of LG’s in-house product testing labs and its technology verifying the degree of energy efficiency.
Accordingly, LG Electronics does not need to go through all the hassles related to having its new product certified by far-away energy efficiency certifiers before the official launch of the new product. By conducting in-house tests, LG Electronics can cut the seven-week-long period required to get an international certificate by three weeks and reduce costs significantly.
To obtain international certifications, such as the US’s Energy Star and the EU’s Energy Labelling, which are required to target overseas markets, companies have to have their products certified by certain certifiers designated by each government. In this case, the whole process from making a test reservation to the receipt of results takes about seven weeks.

LG전자, 세계 최초 에너지규격 분야 생활가전 공인시험소 인증
LG전자는 국제인증기관 인터텍으로부터 세계 최초로 에너지규격 분야 생활가전 통합 공인시험소로 인정받았다고 14일 밝혔다.
인터텍이 에너지 규격 분야에서 세탁기, 냉장고, 에어컨 전 제품군을 아우르는 통합 공인시험소로 인정한 곳은 LG전자가 유일하다. 이는 LG전자 사내 제품시험연구소의 신뢰도와 에너지효율 검증 기술력이 국제적으로 인정받았다는 의미다.
LG전자는 에너지규격 관련 자체 인증시험이 가능해져 제품 출시 전 에너지성능 인증 절차에 필요한 시간•경제적 비용을 줄일 수 있게 됐다.
북미 에너지스타, 유럽 에너지 라벨링 등 해외 시장 공략에 필요한 에너지성능 인증을 위해서는 해당 국가 정부가 지정한 인증기관에서 제품 인증시험을 진행해야한다. 외부 인증기관에서 인증시험을 진행하면 일정 예약, 제품 해외발송, 성능평가, 평가결과 입수 등 약 7주가 소요된다.
LG전자는 자체 시험소에서 시험 평가를 수행하면 기간을 3주가량 단축시키고 비용 절감 효과도 거둘 것으로 기대했다.
김준호 LG전자 품질센터장 전무는 “최근 에너지효율 경쟁이 치열해지면서 에너지 성능 검증능력도 중요해졌다”며 “통합 공인시험소를 기반으로 에너지 고효율 제품을 선 출시해 시장선도 경쟁력을 높일 것”이라고 말했다.
