Exhibition & Conference / KES 2006 True aspect of digital Korea, global IT leader The Korea Electronics Show 2006 (KES 2006), hosted by the Korea Electronics Association (www.gokea.org), will open at KINTEX in Goyang on Oct. 17 under the slogan of "Innovative Digital Solution!" The opening ceremony is slated to be attended by about 500 dignitaries, including Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy Chung Sye-hyun, Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo and KEA Chairman Yun. KES is Korea's leading electronics-IT exhibition, which this year is holding its 37th show in its history. More than 600 participating companies from 16 nations will display their leading-edge IT products during KES 2006. The venue, covering a space of 32,157sq. meters, comprises the Digital Information Home Electronic Appliances Hall, the Information . Communication Hall, the Industrial Equipment Hall, the Electronic Parts Hall and the national pavilions for China and Taiwan. Key features There are five key features of the KES 2006. First, the show is Asia's leading global IT exhibition participated in by some 600 companies from 16 countries, including Korea, the US, Japan, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Among the participants are such world-renowned companies as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Philips, HP, Sharp, Haier and BenQ. In addition, the show will be visited by VIPs in the electronics and exhibition fields from such countries as Germany, Japan, China and Taiwan. Second, the show is a specialized IT business exhibition with high-level overseas recognition. Held in linkage with other major Asian electronic fairs of Japan (CEATEC), Taiwan (Taitronics) and Hong Kong (HKEF), KES is expected to draw about 6,000 buyers from overseas. In a related move, there will be an export meeting involving the invited foreign buyers during the exhibition period. Third, the show is an exhibition for experiencing future technologies. The visitors will be able to experience various kinds of future technologies related to the electronics industry at special exhibition booths, including those for demonstrating home network technologies, environment-friendly technologies, newly developed excellent electronics parts and excellent IT designs. Fourth, the show is a digital information exchange fair. To promote the exchange of information, exhibition organizers have prepared a number of special events, including international seminars on such topics as the progress of digital technology, the future of the IT industry and digital convergence technology. Speakers will include prominent figures in related areas, including Hwang Chang-gyu, president of Samsung Electronics. There will also be new product launching sessions during the exhibition. Fifth, the show is Korea's leading brand exhibition with 37 years of history. Designated by the Korean government as a Korean brand exhibition for six consecutive years, the show enjoys a high level of recognition abroad. The major exhibits of KES 2006 include most advanced items in the areas of digital multimedia, digital information, computing, communications, broadcasting, car electronics, manufacturing of electronic products, test and measurement devices and excellent electronic parts and materials. These exhibits will provide the viewers with an overview of rapidly developing digital products. Being the site of digital revolution, KES 2006 is hosted jointly by the Ministry of Commerce, Industries and Energy and Gyeonggi Province and is co-organized by the Korea Electronics Association and KOTRA. As a comprehensive electronics fair enjoying a high level of recognition and a competitive edge at home and abroad, the event will surely offer a precious opportunity to take a good look at the future of IT Korea, a nation that will lead the global electronics industry in the 21st century. The show will be held for five days from October 17, Tuesday to October 21, Saturday. Three days from the 17th through the 19th are designated as business days, while the 20th and 21st are public days. The show will be open from 10am to 5pm. For the convenience of visitors, the organizers will operate a shuttle bus service that runs from the exhibition venue to Seoul and major metropolitan areas. There will be lotteries through which free gifts such as LCD-TVs, drum washing machines, laptop computers and MP3s will be presented to general visitors. KES 2006 keynote speech Hwang Chang-kyu, president of Samsung Semiconductor Corp, will give the keynote speech at KES 2006. He will speak on the topic of "Progress of Digital Technologies and the Future of the IT Industry." Competition and cooperation among global IT businesses is evolving in various forms amid rapidly changing technological and management environments. Global businesses are under incessant pressure to innovate themselves to survive in this shape-up-or-ship-out situation. To ensure successful innovation, it's a must to get an accurate insight into technological and market trends, as well as to establish and carry out futureoriented innovation strategies. Under these situations, the Korea Electronics Association prepared a Keynote Speech session as one of concurrent events of KES 2006 on the future strategies of the IT and electronics industries that will be delivered by globally renowned professionals. Great opportunity to build global network for KES The Korea Electronics Association (KEA) will invite a number of VIPs, including CEOs of global electronics companies and organizations as well as renowned global exhibitions, to promote the Korea Electronics Show and publicize IT Korea. Among the key persons to be invited are Mr. Jens Heithecker, CEO of IFA, Europe's largest electronic home appliances exhibition; Mr. Adrian Chang, Asia Pacific President of BenQ, a leading Taiwan electronics company; Mr. Kazo Kaneko, CEO of JEITA, Japan's leading electronics organization; JESA's full time manager Mr. Jiro Iriye, Vice Chairman of China CCPIT; and Mr. James Blue, CEO of IfSEC, the world's largest security exhibition. Last August, KEA concluded a memorandum of understanding designed to enhance cooperation between the organizers of KES and IFA. Further steps are being taken to foster cooperative ties with various global exhibitions, including CES of the US, CeBIT of Germany and IfSEC of England. After attending the KES 2006 opening and receptions, the invited VIPs will tour the exhibition site, meet representatives of some of the participating companies, and tour factories. Variety of international technology seminars Under the theme of Innovative Digital Solutions, the IT fair will be primed with a wide variety of technology seminars and new product presentations, all designed to help better understand the future trend and technologies in the age of ubiquitous and digital convergence. The events will consist of technology seminars, technology transfer explanatory sessions and new product launching sessions covering a wide range of topics including digital multimedia technologies, next-generation mobile communication technologies, environment-friendly technologies, international patent disputes, digital convergence industries in the ubiquitous era and home network industries. These events will offer a great opportunity for participants to get an insight into the current trends and future prospects of the digital convergence technologies, as well as build up a stronger relationship among research institutes and related professionals. Plus, a string of export consultation meetings . global IT electronics parts outsourcing consultation meetings and export consultation meetings with Russian electronics buyers . will be attended by a group of overseas buyers with strong buying power, clearing the way for domestic exporters to overcome the limited market access, as well as, to lay a solid foundation for future growth. With a lot of global enterprises and Russian buyers in attendance, the export consultation meetings are expected to serve as an optimal place for business matchmaking. Awards ceremonies The KEA will present the Electronic Parts Technology Award aimed at promoting the local development of high-valueadded electronic parts and supporting endeavors to explore new markets for newly developed parts. In the large companies category, Samsung Electronics has been selected as the winner of the grand prize of the Presidential Award for developing its Flash Memory Disk. In the small- and medium-sized companies category, Iljin Display Co. Ltd. has been chosen for the grand prize for developing its Projection 1- LCD Panel.
