SEOUL, KOREA – Pantech, a South Korean handset maker, launched its latest smartphone the "Vega Iron," with thinner bezels and an endless metal ring, in South Korea on Friday. Since the launch date coincides with that of the Samsung Galaxy S4, Pantech seems determined to pit the Vega Iron against the Galaxy S4.
Jun-woo Lee, CEO of Pantech, announced that the Vega Iron, a LTE smartphone with an endless metal ring will go on sale on April 26 through Korea’s three mobile operators (SK Telecom, KT and LG U+). Its ex-works price is KRW 829,400.
The 5-inch Vega Iron with an endless metal ring sports 2.4mm bezels on each side, the smallest in the world, Pantech claimed.
The Vega Iron features an in-cell LCD display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution, according to Pantech.
Kim Ju-Seong, head of Pantech’s domestic marketing division, said, “We expect that so much buzz around the Vega Iron would lead to brisk sales. With the launch of the Vega Iron, we will kick off various marketing activities to better communicate the value of the Vega brand to consumers.”

팬택이 신제품 스마트폰 `베가 아이언`을 26일 출시한다. 갤럭시S4와 같은날 출시해 맞불을 놓겠다는 전략이다.
팬택(대표 이준우)은 세계 최초로 `엔드리스 메탈(하나로 이어진 금속테두리)`을 구현한 롱텀에벌루션(LTE) 스마트폰 `베가 아이언`을 이동통신 3사를 통해 26일 출시한다고 밝혔다. 출고가는 82만9400원이다.
베가 아이언은 메탈 소재와 2㎜대 최소 베젤로 구현한 혁신적 디자인과 `보기 위한 폰` 계보를 잇는 최고의 화질이 특징이다. 팬택은 베가 아이언 공개에 맞춰 론칭한 첫 베가 브랜드 광고와 대대적인 서비스센터 개선을 통해 브랜드 강화에 나섰다.
김주성 팬택 국내마케팅본부장(전무)은 “베가 아이언에 높은 관심과 기대감이 판매 호조세로 자연스레 이어질 것으로 기대한다”며 “베가 아이언 출시를 기점으로 베가 브랜드에 걸맞는 다양한 마케팅 활동을 전개해 완전히 새로워진 베가를 선보이겠다”고 밝혔다.
