SEOUL, KOREA – The spread of smartphones has made a huge dent in PC-based access to websites. According to Nielsen KoreanClick, Korea’s major online portals, like Naver, Daum and Nate, have experienced steep falls in the number of UVs (Unique Visitor) and PVs (page view) and the average visit duration since the emergence of mobile web services and mobile-only apps.
The number of PC-based PVs for Naver stood at 18.98 billion in Mach of this year, down 21.8% from 24.26 billion in May of 2009, right before Naver’s mobile web services and smartphone apps made their debut. The average visit duration also shed 22.6% from 405 minutes to 313 minutes during the same period. On the other hand, the number of UVs gained 2.8% to 31.92 million from May of 2009.
Daum and NATE saw the number of their monthly UVs (Unique Visitor) shrink. In other words, online portals with relatively lower market shares sustained a faster drop in their PC-based visitors. Daum, which kicked off its mobile web services in August of 2008 and launched apps in April of 2012, witnessed the number of UVs decline 5% to 27.95 million in March of this year from 29.43 million in July of 2008. The number of Daum’s PVs plunged 44.7% from 20.47 billion to 11.32 billion while the average visit duration on Daum contracted 36.9% from 341 minutes to 215 minutes during the same period.

“앱 나오자 PC로 포털 안본다"…이용 최대 71% 감소
스마트폰 확산과 반비례해 유선 포털 사용은 급격히 줄어든 것으로 나타났다.
28일 닐슨코리안클릭에 따르면 네이버•다음•네이트 등 주요 포털 월별 순방문자(UV)와 페이지뷰(PV), 평균 체류시간은 모바일 웹 서비스와 전용 앱 등장 이후 큰 폭으로 줄었다.
3월 PC를 통한 네이버 전체 PV는 189억8000만건으로 네이버 모바일 웹서비스와 스마트폰 앱 등장 직전인 2009년 5월 242억6000만건보다 21.8% 감소했다. 네이버는 2009년 6월 모바일 웹 서비스를, 2010년 10월 앱 서비스를 시작했다.
같은 기간 평균 체류시간도 405분에서 313분으로 22.6% 줄었다. 반면에 UV는 3192만명으로 2009년 5월보다 2.8% 늘었다.
다음과 네이트는 월별 순방문자도 줄었다. 시장 점유율이 낮을수록 PC로 접속하는 방문객이 더 빨리 사라진 셈이다. 2008년 8월 모바일웹 서비스를, 2010년 4월 앱을 출시한 다음은 올해 3월 UV가 2795만명으로 2943만명을 기록한 2008년 7월보다 5% 감소했다.
같은 기간 PV는 204억7000만건에서 113억2000만건으로 44.7%, 평균 체류시간은 341분에서 215분으로 36.9% 줄었다.
네이트는 모바일웹 및 앱 출시 직전인 2010년 5월 UV가 2500만명에 달했으나 올해 3월까지 37.8% 줄어 1556만명으로 줄었다. 네이트 모바일웹 및 앱은 각각 2010년 6월과 12월에 나왔다.
네이트 PV는 2010년 5월 75억3000만건에서 올해 3월 21억6000만건으로 3년 만에 71.3% 줄었다. 1인당 평균 체류시간도 163분에서 91분으로 44.3% 짧아졌다.
업계 관계자는 “순방문자보다 페이지뷰 감소폭이 큰 것은 포털을 많이 활용하는 사람일수록 PC 접속에서 더 빨리 이탈했다는 의미”라며 “포털 활용이 PC에서 스마트폰으로 넘어가는 것은 부인할 수 없는 추세”라고 말했다.
