SEOUL, KOREA - It has been analyzed that the growth of the external disk storage market would slow down this year.
IDC Korea (represented by Hong Yoo-sook), a market research company, said on the 29th that the external disk storage market would post KRW 481.2 billion in sales this year.
The market is expected to increase by 4.5% this year. But the expected growth rate is lower than that made in 2012 when it stood at 11.6%. Despite the overall sagging demand for severs and other corporate systems, the market posted a robust growth last year.
The prolonged downward trend of SMEs and the negative outlook on the external economy have caused the investments in the IT sector to shrink. And the market research company is expecting that the reduced investments in the IT sector would affect the overall industry. And the storage market is no exception.
“Next generation businesses in financial, public and communications sectors are expected to lead the market. And only a few big companies would continue to create the most of the demand for a while,” says a senior researcher from IDC Korea.

올해 외장형 디스크 스토리지 시장 성장세가 다소 둔화될 것이란 전망이 나왔다. IT 투자 위축을 피하지 못할 것이란 분석이다.
시장 조사 업체인 한국IDC(대표 홍유숙)는 올해 국내 외장형 디스크 스토리지 시장이 4812억원 규모를 형성할 것으로 예상된다고 29일 밝혔다.
전년 대비 4.5% 시장 성장이 관측되지만 그 폭은 2012년보다 낮은 수치다. 지난해 스토리지 시장은 11.6% 증가한 4603억원 규모를 형성했다. 서버 등 기업용 시스템 수요의 전반적인 성장 정체에도 불구하고 뚜렷한 증가세를 나타냈다.
한국IDC는 올해 중견·중소 기업 시장 침체가 장기화되고 대외 경기 전망도 부정적이어서 IT 투자 위축세가 기업 전반으로 확대될 것으로 예상했다. 스토리지 시장 역시 이런 영향에서 무관할 수 없다는 것이다.
한국IDC 박예리 선임연구원은 “주로 금융·공공·통신 부문 차세대 사업이 시장을 견인할 전망이며 소수 대형 업체를 중심으로 수요가 집중되는 추이는 당분간 지속될 것”이라고 말했다.
향후 시장 전망은 차세대 데이터센터 환경으로의 전환, 기업 빅데이터의 분석 관리 이슈를 중심으로 전개가 예상돼 △스케일 아웃 스토리지 △가상화 백업 복구 △플래시 스토리지 △빅데이터 어플라이언스 등이 유망할 것으로 IDC는 내다봤다. 이에 5년간 연평균 6.4%의 매출 성장을 나타내면서 2017년 국내 시장 규모는 6286억원에 이를 것으로 IDC는 전망했다.
