SEOUL, KOREA - GM Korea said on May 2 it has sold 58,899 cars during the month of April, down 4.6 percent from the same month in 2012. Of this, the company sold 10,260 in the domestic market, 21.8 percent lower than that in April 2012. In the overseas market, GM Korea sold 48,639, slightly more than the same period last year.

 

By model, the Spark suffered the biggest setback with a 42.3-percent year-on-year decline, bringing down the whole figure with it. The new Trax was sold only 812 units, down 35.7 percent from the previous month. The cumulative sales number for the four months between January and April was 262,886 (43,232 domestic and 219,654 overseas), 0.3 percent lower than the same month last year.

 

A GM Korea official said, "We will make up for the deficiency with the latest model Chevy G2 Cruze, as well as the Malibu, Trax, Captiva, and Orlando equipped with the next-generation 6-speed auto transmission. Based on the positive customer perception toward Chevy lineups, we will get back on track in May by raising domestic sales numbers."
