Seoul, Korea - The Computer World announced seven technologies to pay attention to this summer.
The first one is the natural user interface (NUI) – operating devices not by keyboards, but by voice, gesture or look. Now the technology evolved to detect emotions or brainwaves to change the way man and machine communicate. The technology had first been mentioned in the 1970s, and it appeared in the real world in 2007, as Microsoft announced the NUI technology. So far, voice and touch are the main interfaces, but gesture-based NUI technology is to be launched within a few months.
Gamification is an attempt to apply the entertainment element of the game to other purposes. More companies are adopting game-like PR programs as a part of their marketing activities to retain their customers. The Computer World predicted that gamification has already become a business segment, and its implementation cases are to sharply increase this year.
The third noticeable technology is virtual assistant. It is a technology that the machine anticipates the user demand and handles the request for the users, such as Siri by Apple and Google Now.
Augmented reality already exists in smartphone applications, but it is expected to evolve further, to understand the physical properties of objects. With the evolved augmented reality, companies will be able to augment an employee’s cubicle to his or her home, or a doctor at his/her office will be able to treat patients at their homes without leaving the office.
Corporate social network is to be used for a variety of tasks, such as co-work between employees, response to customer requests and business suggestion review. Many companies are anticipating social network to become an alternative to traditional ways of doing business, such as meetings and conference calls. Gartner anticipated approximately half of companies in the world will be on their internal social networks by 2016.
The Computer World foresaw 3D printing market and smartphone-sized mini servers will grow even larger. Especially, the appearance of low power consumption, high-performance servers on ARM and Atom processors is expected.
올 여름을 뜨겁게 달굴 7가지 기술이 온다
컴퓨터월드가 올 여름에 주목할 만한 일곱 가지 기술을 소개했다.
먼저 내추럴 유저 인터페이스(NUI)는 키보드가 아닌 음성이나 동작, 표정으로 기기를 작동하는 기술이다. 감정이나 뇌파까지 인지해 사람과 기기의 의사소통 방식을 변화시킨다. 1970년대부터 언급됐지만 2007년 마이크로소프트가 NUI 기술을 공개하면서 현실로 나타났다. 아직은 음성과 터치가 중심이지만 몇 달 내로 행동 기반 NUI 기술이 출시될 예정이다.
게이미피케이션은 게임의 재미 요소를 다른 목적으로 사용하는 시도다. 마케팅과 고객 유지를 위해 게임처럼 즐기는 홍보 프로그램을 도입하는 기업이 늘어난다. 컴퓨터월드는 게이미피케이션이 이미 비즈니스의 한 영역이며 올해 안에 도입 사례가 급증한다고 내다봤다.
세 번째로 주목할 만한 기술은 버추얼 어시스턴트(가상 도우미)다. 애플 시리와 구글 나우처럼 사용자의 요구를 예상하고 대신 업무를 처리해주는 기능이다. 스마트폰뿐만 아니라 적용 범위가 다양해진다. 여행 목적지를 알고 각종 정보를 제공하는 비행기 좌석 시스템, 회의 정보를 알려주는 회의실 시스템이 대표적이다.
증강현실은 이미 스마트폰 앱으로 존재하지만 단순히 보는 차원에서 벗어나 사물의 물리적 성질을 이해하는 수준까지 발전한다. 기업에서는 직원 사무 공간을 그대로 집으로 옮겨 업무를 처리하도록 해주는 기술이 개발된다. 센서를 연결하면 외과 의사가 집에 있는 환자를 치료하는 일도 가능하다.
기업용 소셜 네트워크는 협업, 고객 서비스 응대, 비즈니스 제안 검토 같은 다양한 업무에 사용된다. 많은 기업이 소셜 네트워크 도구가 고전적인 미팅과 전화회의 문화를 바꿀 것으로 기대한다. 가트너는 2016년까지 세계 기업 절반이 페이스북과 같은 내부 소셜 네트워크를 갖출 것으로 전망했다.
컴퓨터월드는 3D 프린팅 시장이 더욱 확대되고 스마트폰 크기의 소형 서버가 늘어날 것으로 점쳤다. 특히 친환경 기류가 확산되면서 ARM과 아톰 침 기반 저전력•고성능 서버 제작 증가가 예상된다.
