Large BLU Market Value to Exceed 10 Billion Dollars in 2006

The market for large-size BLUs for LCD TV, LCD monitor, notebook and industrial use, 10-inch and larger, has continued to grow at a rapid pace. The market value is projected to surge 38% from US$7.5 billion in 2005 to US$10.4 billion in 2006. This steep upward trend will likely continue in the future, posting annual growth of 19% for five years from 2005 through 2009. Therefore, the market for large BLUs, key components for LCDs, will reach US$15 billion in revenues by 2009.
LCD TV Application Market
This attributes to the equal growth in LCD monitors, notebooks and LCD TVs, and specifically, the fast pickup in the LCD TV market has led the overall large BLU market growth. The market for LCD TVuse BLUs is estimated to garner US$5.5 billion in 2006, accounting for 53.4% of the total market. Monitor and LCD TV BLU markets remained similar by holding a 40% share each in 2005, but LCD TV BLUs are predicted to represent much more than half the market in 2006. This share of LCD TV applications will probably increase further to nearly 60% by 2008. Although the monitor and notebook BLU market will continue to grow every year, this increase will be gentler than that in the LCD TV BLU market. Yearly growth in LCD TV applications reached 32%, and this dramatic upward trend has forced Korean and Taiwanese BLU manufacturers to boost the production proportion of LCD TV BLUs.
LCD TV BLU market value
As the LCD TV market is on an upward trend, the migration towards larger LCD TV BLUs has appeared outstanding. The LCD TV BLU market value is projected to soar by 87% from US$3 billion in 2005 to US$5.5 billion in 2006. Notably, the size 32-inch is occupying the largest market as a single size, with its share registering 38% in 2005, but the trend towards larger LCD TVs is expected to drive the 32-inch share down to 36% in 2006.
38% of the overall LCD TV BLU market in 2006
The market for BLUs for 37-inch and larger LCD TVs may chalk up US$2.1 billion in 2006, with the share up dramatically from 23% in 2005 to 38% in 2006. This share is projected to edge up to nearly 50% from 2006 through 2007. By contrast, the 23-inch and smaller LCD TV BLU market, which is targeting the second TV field, will see its share plunge from 20% in 2005 to 13% in 2006. Such figures demonstrate the fast shift to larger-size LCD TV BLUs every quarter led by 40-inch and 42-inch.
