Samsung Launches LED Monitor
For the first time in Korea, Samsung Electronics has launched a monitor made with a LED Back Light Unit (BLU). On October 25, it has begun to sell 20.1-inch LCD monitor named the SyncMaster XL20, which has adopted LED BLU. An official of Samsung has explained that this new product has realized such a high level of definition that it can recapture the color sense of photos taken by a high fidelity digital camera. Following NEC of Japan, Samsung Electronics has become the second to succeed in launching an LED monitor.
Compared with the conventional Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp, the LED BLU monitor has much improved its color expression, so that it can nearly perfectly capture the natural color. Accordingly, it is suitable for such professionals as designers and photographers. The company's official said: "LED monitors are very expensive.
The price of NEC products stands at about US$6000. Therefore, it is not easy to commercialize. However, Samsung has succeeded in lowering by far the price of this new product, thus making it possible to open its market to the general public."
