SEOUL, KOREA - In the North American Smartphone market dominated by Apple, the two local Smartphone giants of Samsung and LG are making rapid progress in terms of the market share. Samsung is narrowing the gap it has with Apple in order to take back the top place. As for LG, it is about to have the market share of 10% for the first time.
Both the local Smartphone makers are trying to increase the market share in the 2nd quarter with GALAXY S4 and Optimus G Pro respectively.
According to the data on the sales of Smartphones in the North American market in the first quarter released by Strategy Analytics (SA) on the 6th, Samsung was placed the 2nd accounting for 28.9% of the market share, while LG took the 3rd place having the market share of 9.4%.
Meanwhile, Apple was ranked the 1st with the market share of 37.4%.
Even if Samsung is still lagging behind Apple, it has narrowed the gap by 8.4%P since last 4th quarter. SA attributes the increase in the market share to the robust growth Samsung has made by selling a wide range of Smartphones including affordable Smartphones, GALAXY S3, GALAXY Note2 and others.
LG Electronics has also posted a remarkable growth, taking the market share of 9.4% for the first time. While the overall sales of Smartphones in the market have decreased, LG has increased the sales by 20% or more thanks to its NEXUS 4, Optimus G and other LTE Smartphones.

애플안방인북미스마트폰시장에서삼성전자와 LG전자가약진했다. 삼성전자는 1위애플과의격차를좁히며 1위탈환에시동을걸었다. LG전자는사상처음으로점유율 10%대를눈앞에뒀다.
삼성전자와 LG전자는각각갤럭시S4와옵티머스G 프로를앞세워 2분기점유율상승을노린다.
스트래티지애널리틱스(SA)가 6일발표한 1분기북미스마트폰시장판매량집계에따르면삼성전자는 28.9%, LG전자는 9.4% 점유율로 2위와 3위를차지했다.
2009년부터부동의 1위를지키고있는애플은이번에도 37.4% 점유율로 1위에올랐다.
삼성전자는애플에여전히뒤졌지만, 지난 4분기에비해격차를 8.4%P나좁혔다. SA는삼성이보급형스마트폰부터갤럭시S3, 갤럭시노트2 등프리미엄제품판매까지견고한성장세를유지한것을상승요인으로꼽았다.
LG전자의선전도눈에띈다. 사상처음으로 9%대점유율을기록하며, 두자리수점유율을목전에뒀다. 전체적으로북미시장스마트폰판매량이줄었지만, LG전자판매량은 20% 이상증가했다. LG전자가선전한배경으로는구글과협력해생산한넥서스4와옵티머스G 등롱텀에벌루션(LTE) 스마트폰판매가활발했기때문으로분석된다.
2분기부터삼성전자와 LG전자의북미시장공략은가속도가붙을전망이다.
삼성전자는지난달말전략스마트폰갤럭시S4로점유율상승을노린다. 애플이 2분기에신제품을출시할계획이없기때문에삼성의선전이예상된다. 특히삼성이북미최대가전유통업체베스트바이와손잡고유통채널확대를모색하는등공격적인마케팅을펼치면서애플과의북미시장격전은더욱치열해질전망이다.
LG전자는옵티머스G 프로를출시하며독보적인 3위로올라선다는계획이다. 1분기넥서스4 효과를봤지만, 지속적인성장을위해서는 LG전자브랜드를내세운제품판매를늘려야하기때문이다.
SA는 “삼성전자는다양한사업자가요구하는제품을폭넓게공급하고있어애플과함께빅2 입지를공고히할것”이라며 “LG전자는상승모멘텀과소비자인지도향상을이어가고, HTC나모토로라등추격자와격차를벌이기위해서는독자브랜드를알리기위한마케팅강화가필요하다”고분석했다.
