SEOUL, KOREA - Korea Aerospace Industries said on May 7 that it has signed a 1.1-trillion-won agreement to mass-produce a follow-up model to the FA-50 with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. The latest contract came after the first mass-production deal signed in 2011.
The FA-50 is a fighter aircraft developed by Korea Aerospace Industries based on the design of the T-50, a supersonic advanced trainer and multirole light fighter developed jointly by KAI and Lockheed Martin.
A DAPA official said, "The FA-50 is excellent in terms of the price-performance ratio with low maintenance cost. We expect the deployment of FA-50 fighters will double our self-defense capabilities."
With the latest deal, Korea Aerospace Industries has won projects worth 3 trillion won for this year to date, one step closer to achieving the 6.2-trillion-won order target for the year.
