World semiconductor facility investment to decrease next year
World semiconductor business circle's facility investment next year is forecast to decrease by 5% to US$51.5 billion in comparison with 2006 which was US$54 billion. Korea's Samsung Electronics appeared to be the largest semiconductor investment planning enterprise with US$5.7 billion, according to Pacific Crest Securities material.
Intel followed with US$5.4 billion and Hynix was next with US$3.1 billion. Among the top 25 semiconductor investment enterprises, Samsung Austin Semiconductor appeared to show the biggest increase, deciding to invest US$1 billion, up 355% from this year. In the case of Inotera, a joint-venture company between Nanya and Infenion, the company plans to invest US$1.6 billion, up 102% than this year. NEC on the contrary is continuously decreasing its investments from US$1.28 billion in 2005 through US$870 million in 2006 to US$656 million in 2007.
