MIC's Information Technology Outlook in 2006
Recently the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) has presented an IT Outlook 2006 to the 51st Information, Computer, Communications Policy Committee (ICCP) meeting of the OECD, which has been held in Budapest, Hungary. This report has analyzed the weight of the IT industry in the trade balance and has made a comparison of it among nations. According to the analysis of this report, as of 2004 Korea's IT exports account for 34% of total exports, thus ranking first among the OECD members. Also, this report is showing the value-added creation ratio of the IT industry among the industries of each nation. This value-added creation ratio of Korea has come second in the OECD member nations. The ratio of R&D investment in IT industry versus GDP has also come second in the member nations. In the Internet superhighway, Korea has 25 subscribers per 100 persons. Following Iceland at 27 subscribers, Korea has stood second in member nations. The IT Outlook 2006 consists of the following 8 chapters: the current situation and outlook of IT industry, international trade of IT industry, globalization and division of labor in the IT industry, China's IT industry, digital content, IT and employment, high-tech IT, and IT policies of member nations.
