SEOUL, KOREA - LS Group said on May 8 that it signed an MOU with Dongfeng Motor Group, a China-based automobile maker, to jointly develop parts and systems used for eco-friendly cars.
The two parties are going to build a strategic partnership to target the Chinese market for green cars including electric vehicles and hybrid cars.
The scope of the partnership will include jointly developing a power train, electronic systems, an energy storage system, a charging system and other automotive electronic components and securing system reliability and a mass-production plan.
LS Group’s four affiliates will play their roles. LS IS is going to develop electronic components such as an electric vehicle relay (EV Relay), a power control unit (PCU) and an on-board charger (OBC). LS Cable will handle an electric wiring set and a charging system connector. LS MTRON will take care of an energy storage system (ESS) and an ultra capacitor (UC), while DaeSung is going to provide a body control module, a power window and switches.
Meanwhile, Dongfeng Motor Group, a car manufacture established in 1969, has the market capitalization of KRW 25 trillion and 140,000 employees.

LS그룹이 중국 자동차 대기업과 손잡고 현지 친환경차 시장 공략에 나선다.
LS그룹의 LS산전·LS전선·LS엠트론·대성전기 네 개 계열사는 8일 경기도 안양 LS타워에서 동풍그룹 부총경리단과 친환경자동차 관련 부품·시스템 공동 개발 양해각서(MOU)를 교환했다고 이날 밝혔다.
양 측은 중국 내 전기차, 하이브리드카 등 친환경차 시장을 공략하고자 관련 부품과 시스템 공동 개발에서 전략적 파트너십을 구축했다.
협력 범위는 친환경차 관련 △파워트레인 및 전장시스템 공동 개발 △에너지저장장치시스템 공동 개발 △시스템 신뢰성 확보 △양산화 방안 확보 △충전 시스템 공동 개발 △협력 가능한 자동차 전장 부품 개발 등이다.
LS산전은 글로벌 주력 아이템인 EV릴레이를 포함해 이미 양산차량으로 검증된 PCU(구동모터 제어장치)와 OBC(차량 내부 충전기) 등 전장부품을 개발한다. 또 LS전선은 차량용 전자제어장치와 통신 모듈을 유기적으로 연결하는 전력 공급 배선 세트와 충전 시스템용 커넥터 개발을 담당한다. LS엠트론은 차세대 에너지저장장치(ESS)인 울트라 커패시터(UC)와 전지용 동박을, 대성전기는 차체제어모듈·파워윈도우·스위치 등 차량 내부 전장부품을 담당한다.
양 측은 제품 완성도와 기술 고도화를 위해 교류회도 갖기로 합의했다.
구자균 LS그룹 산전사업 부문 부회장은 “동풍그룹과의 제휴로 LS그룹은 중국시장 진출 교두보를 확보하게 됐다”며 “LS가 글로벌 톱 친환경차 부품업체로 성장하는데 시발점이 될 것”이라고 말했다.
1969년에 설립한 동풍그룹은 자산 총계 25조원에 종업원 수가 14만명에 달하는 완성차 업체다.
