Seoul, Korea -Korean government is moving at full speed to support Korean environment management companies building presence in Latin America. It is anticipated that Korean companies will be able to participate in water supply and sewer system improvement projects being pushed forward by Latin American countries.
Ministry of Economy announced on the 9th that it sent delegates to Columbia and Mexico and held kick-off reporting sessions for sewer system improvement master plan and for meetings between high ranking officials to discuss cooperation on environmental issues for two days from the 6th.
The companies involved in the preparation of master plan, including Hyundai E&C (Columbia) and POSCO E&C (Mexico) have signed cooperation agreements with their counterparts in each country and discussed the directions for preparation of sewage system improvement plan and local business opportunities.
Colombian Ministry of Housing, City and Land showed interest in the advanced water supply and sewer system of Korea, and promised its unstinted support in strengthening the friendly relations. The Korean delegate and Colombian Administration of Regional Environment agreed to exchange an MOU on strengthening cooperation on environmental technology issues.
Mexican Federal Administration of Water Resource expected that it will be able to establish a well-organized sewer management system and a comprehensive plan for the sewer system, with the advanced sewer processing technique shared by its Korean partners.
국내 환경기술, 중남미 시장 공략 개시
국내 환경기업의 중남미 시장 진출 확대를 위한 정부차원의 움직임이 본격화된다. 중남미 국가에서 추진 중인 상하수도 개선 프로젝트에 국내 기업들의 참여 기회가 열릴 전망이다.
환경부는 6일부터 8일까지 콜롬비아와 멕시코에 대표단을 파견해 정부 고위급 환경협력회의 및 `하수도 개선 종합계획(마스터플랜) 수립` 착수보고회를 개최했다고 9일 밝혔다.
대표단은 환경부, 환경산업기술원 및 마스터플랜 사업수행 기업 담당자들로 구성됐으며 방문국별로 중앙정부 고위 관계자의 면담, 주요 지방정부 방문, 양국 상하수도 정책 및 프로젝트 세미나 등을 통해 환경협력 방안을 논의했다.
현대건설(콜롬비아), 포스코건설(멕시코) 등 마스터플랜 수립사업 수행기업들은 한국환경기술원과 함께 해당국 수행기관과 협력계약을 체결하고 하수도 개선 종합계획 수립 추진방향과 현지 협력사업을 논의했다.
콜롬비아 주택도시국토부는 한국의 발전된 상하수도 정책에 높은 관심을 표명했고 기술 및 재정 지원 요청과 함께 우호관계 강화에 지원을 아끼지 않을 것을 약속했다. 콜롬비아 자치지역환경청은 우리 대표단과 환경기술 협력강화를 위한 양해각서를 교환하기로 약속했다. 입찰 진행 중인 살리트레 하수처리장 건설 사업(총 사업비 3억5000만달러)에 우리 기업의 참여방안을 논의했다.
멕시코에서는 상하수도 분야 협력 강화 및 성공적인 마스터플랜 수립을 위해 멕시코 연방환경자원부, 연방수자원청, 멕시코 주정부와의 면담이 이루어졌다.
멕시코 연방수자원청은 이번 마스터플랜 사업이 한-멕시코 간 환경협력 양해각서 교환 이후 실질적인 환경협력의 출발점으로서 의미를 갖는다는 점에 공감했다. 멕시코 연방수자원청은 한국의 선진 하수처리기술 전수로 체계적인 하수도분야 관리체계 구축과 하수도 종합계획을 수립할 수 있을 것으로 기대했다.
백규석 환경부 환경정책실장은 “콜롬비아와 멕시코 현지 여건에 적합한 하수도 분야 마스터플랜 수립과 우리 환경기업이 보유한 우수 기술 제공으로 위상이 한층 높아질 것”이라며 “앞으로도 중남미 신흥시장 진출을 위해 고위급 네트워크 구축 및 사업발굴을 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
