Seoul, Korea -CJ Hellovision recorded KRW 273.6 billion sales in Q1. According to CJ Hellovision, it has recorded KRW 25.5 billion operating income and 16.5 billion net income during the first three months this year. Its sales went up by 51% quarter-on-quarter, but its operating income and net income dropped by 9% and 3%, respectively.
CJ Hellovision explained that its profitability was impacted by the deepened competition, increased overheads from the digital conversion and increased network usage fee subsequent to the growth of MVNO business.
CJ Hellovision continued its growth in Q1, with the number of accumulated cable TV subscribers passing 3.3 million, increased by 18,000 in the first quarter. The number of digital broadcasting subscribers at the end of March was 1.59 million, increased by 110,000 from the year-end last year. The rate of conversion to digital broadcasting rose to 47%, 9%p higher from the same period last year.
The number of ultra-fast internet and VoIP service subscribers also rose by 27,000 and 36,000, respectively, to 720,000 to 670,000. The revenues TVing and Hellomobile also rose by 5% and 26%, respectively, compared to the same quarter last year.

CJ헬로비전은 결합상품 가입자 유치경쟁 심화와 디지털전환 관련 사업경비 증가, 알뜰폰(MVNO) 사업 기반 확대에 따른 네트워크 사용료•수수료 증가로 수익성이 악화됐다고 설명했다.
CJ헬로비전은 1분기 케이블TV 방송 가입자가 1만8000명이 늘어 누적 339만명을 넘는 등 성장을 지속했다. 디지털 방송 가입자는 3월 말 기준으로 159만명으로, 지난해 말보다 11만명 증가해 디지털 전환율도 지난해 1분기 38%에서 47%로 상승했다.
초고속 인터넷과 인터넷 전화 가입자도 각각 2만7000명, 3만6000명이 늘어 총 가입자가 72만명, 67만명에 이른다.
티빙과 헬로모바일의 매출 비중도 전년 동기 5%에서 26%로 급증했다.
CJ헬로비전은 △UHD TV, 기가인터넷, 스마트 셋톱박스 등 기술 역량 확보 △방송통신 융합 서비스 차별화 △디지털 전환 및 고부가가치 결합상품 비중 확대로 선도 사업자로서 위상을 다질 방침이다.
