SEOUL, KOREA - Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors regained the top spot in the U.S. sub-compact car market in nine months. Last month, Hyundai Motor sold 4,730 units of Accent and Kia Motors 4,531 units of Pride in the United States.
Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, accordingly, overtook Chevrolet Sonic's 8,151 and Nissan Versa's 7,155, regaining the top position in this category in nine months after losing in July 2012.
Kia Motors' Pride played a key role for both companies to reclaim the No. 1 position. The sales of the Pride continued on an upward trend this year, with its monthly sales reaching an all-time high last month.
Even in the U.S. compact market, Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors maintained their leading position. They sold 40,968 units, including 24,445 units of Elantra, 5,121 units of K3, and 11,311 units of Soul, higher than Honda's 26,453 and Toyota's 25,851. Since 2010, Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors have maintained their top spot in this category.
