2006 Global Costume Festival
Every country has their own traditional dress.
Especially beautiful is the Korean traditional costume called Hanbok. It is famous all around the world. Even though many Koreans of the younger generation call it a fossil style of uncomfortable dress, the majority of foreign people value it highly. To break this prejudice and show the Korean traditional costume's spirit, the 2006 Global Costume Festival will be held on November 12 at the Grand Hilton Seoul Hotel.
This festival has been held annually since 2001. Participants can see various traditional costumes of other countries and different kinds of Korean Hanbok at the festival. Foreign ambassadors and their spouses will wear their country's own traditional dress and walk on the catwalk. In between, the fashion participants can also enjoy Korean traditional opera performances such as "Pansori."
Because this kind of festival can make one more familiar with Korean culture, many embassies have been paying attention. 54 embassies have already signed up to participate. The one night long festival will start at 7 pm. Embassies participating in the fashion show include Thailand, Japan, Lebanon, India, Guatemala, Pakistan, Vietnam, Brazil, Romania, Russia, Finland, Hungary, Canada, and Nigeria.
Since this is a very rare opportunity to enjoy more than 50 different kinds of Hanbok styles ranging from royal dress to fusion contemporary, the festival will attract the attention of many foreigners who are interested in Korean culture.
