SEOUL, KOREA - The market share of Android smartphones reached an all-time high in the first quarter of this year. According to a U.S. market research firm Strategy Analytics, the sales of Android smartphones reached 160.9 million units in the first quarter, grabbing a market share of 75.2 percent in the whole smartphone market.
This is the largest in terms of both sales volume and market share. More than three out of four smartphones sold during the January-March period of this year were Android-based smartphones.
The sales of Apple's iPhones using iOS reached 37.4 million units during the same period, with a market share of 6.6 percent.
Android smartphones achieved a year-to-year growth rate of 77.3 percent, higher than iPhone's 6.6 percent. This is the first time for iPhone to achieve a single-digit growth rate.
