SEOUL, KOREA - In the dehumidifier market that is expected to achieve a robust growth this year, a small company is engaged in a head-to-head competition with a giant. Winix and LG Electronics are vying for the top spot in the dehumidifier market.
Based on a survey conducted by market research firm Gfk Korea, Winix claimed a market share of 52.1 percent in the Korean dehumidifier market, ranking No. 1 among dehumidifier makers.
The survey showed that the market share of LG Electronics is estimated at 21.2 percent, lagging far behind that of Winix. A Winix official said, "We are an unrivaled leader in the Korean dehumidifier market, with more than 50 percent share. We will increase our presence further this year by focusing on technological and marketing capabilities."
LG Electronics, however, claimed that it is non-sense, saying that it has a 38-percent share in the dehumidifier market, ranking No. 1. Winix is a No. 2 player with a share of about 33 percent. The dehumidifier market is expected to mark more than twofold growth this year, with its size likely to rise to over 1 million units from 500,000 units a year ago.
